Date of birth: 15 April 1974 Sex: Male Marital status: Single Nationality : Belgium / South African Other languages : Afrikaans Criminal offences: none Health : Excellent. Interests: To find out my body limits Goals: To get to that limit! Hobbies: Super bike racing, Diving, Out door Adventures, Shaolin combat training. Meditation: My mind is not yet to that level as I don’t think it ever will be, but I can only keep on trying. Instructing: I love developing a student into something they can be proud of. |
Instructing Preferences: I do prefer training a student, one on one, as I can push them to their limits. If they are prepared to make the time, so am I. Instructing Lows:Teaching a student that gives up! Team Coaching:I love coaching top martial art athlete’s as I always compete with them. Most coaches only stand and watch. |
I enjoy competing more than instructing therefore the competitor has the faith in his coach to do the same as they. For me there is nothing worse that a coach or instructor that thinks the world of himself but yet he has never competed in a competition before. I believe that the instructor must be able and capable to perform what he instructs. |
Competitions: I’m a competitor by nature. I enjoy showing my stuff, if you can, why not? I have that problem. Use the gifts that have been given to you. You have one life so make the most of it. This has always been my motto in life : If you have a gift, no matter which sport or art you do, do it to your best ability and you will feel that it was worth all the time and effort, "trust me". |

I started training at the age of 4 , not by choice, as my dad forced me into it ,until I was 12 years old ... (Thanks Dad). He then gave me the option to study martial arts further or stop and do any other sport I desired. |
Training gave me the capability to do whatever I enjoyed. The nice thing about martial arts compared to all the other sports is that I’m still learning; there is so much to learn, so much more out there and that is what makes martial art so great. Training abilities : |

My brother and I were brought up as Ying and Yang. He was trained in strength and I was trained with speed. He was trained with mind control and I with aggression. So we grew up this way, one was always taught the opposite of the other, so that we could share each others talents and knowledge once we had exploited it to the best of our abilities, as we grow older into the system of Shaolin. |
Training Shaolin: Training in the Leong Cheung Family System is not an easy task. It requires hours of hard work and dedication to complete the system. On average I will train between 3-4 hours every day working on forms, strength, fighting skills and cardio. The hardest part is that every thing looks easier than it seems, this is where dedication plays an important role. Practice makes perfect! Training methods :
Shaolin indoor and outdoor training has been the bulk of my training method. Shaolin indoor consists of your usual training of forms, sparring, stretching etc. Shaolin Outdoors training consists of obstacle courses, monkey poles, plum blossoms, floats, high beams, Shaolin holes and tracking. All of this is great fun " well sort of, yip, really hard
stuff."

Other martial arts: I enjoy all martial arts, each one has something special about them. There is no better one, each one offers different qualities and benefits, you just have to find out which one is best suited to you. Most important is that you do some research before joining a school and find an instructor that has something better to do than to try and run other martial arts down to keep you there. Instructors: There have been some great instructors and some not so great instructors that I have studied under but all have been beneficial to my experience. I enjoy training with my dad, Master Leo as he has been the hardest on me, as well as Master Li Heng Ji: "coach of the Beijing wu-shu team", Master Seng-Au, Shaolin temple and seminars with the Shangdong Whu-Shu institute - these being the ones most valuable to my martial art studies and progress. School of instruction:
I run the Bedfordview Shaolin Martial Art centre. Students: Students at Shaolin Martial Art Centres are explained, from the day they walk in, that it is a school of discipline, an art, where students come to train and learn, not to have a social gathering. |
