MEMORIZE YOUR ROUTINE
Problems a wushu student has is how to memorize the numerous movements of a routine he learns from his teacher.
Note the following carefully.
1] Careful observation.
Wushu routines are taught by demonstration in order that the student may observe the complicated movements more clearly the master or instructor often teaches a routine part by part and explains the movements while giving demonstrations. This is a method of object teaching which impresses the student much more strongly than the instruction given in a book.
2] Knowing the meaning of the movements and their connections
When a teacher demonstrates new movements for the first time ,the student should watch very carefully then ask questions and repeat observing the teachers demonstration of the new movements shown. Only then can he grasp the essentials of each movement.
Generally speaking all the movements in a wushu routine have combative values and they are connected with one another in specific ways.
As long as you understand the meaning of a movement, you can commit it to memory.
3] Memorizing the names of the routine .
The name of a movement is suggestive of its structure. As long as you remember the name you can hardly forget the structure.
4] Direction
The beginner should face the same direction every time he starts doing an exercise, only when he is proficient enough should he change his position at the commencement of the routine or exercise .
Otherwise he is apt to lose his bearings or even lose track of the routine when he gets halfway through.
5] Repeat your knowledge over and over
Most importantly the beginner must practice a newly learnt movement over and over again before taking up another movement, while learning a new part he must go over the old parts again and again only then can he memorize the movements of the whole routine.
