QIGONG

Why is it advisable to place the tip of the tongue on top of palate during a qigong exercise?

Placing the tip of the tongue on the top palate is to connect both ren and du channels who are two of the major channels in the jingluo system of the human body.

The tip of the tongue is at one end of the ren channel which runs through the midline on the anterior side of the body, while the top hard palate is at one end of the Du channel which runs through the midline of the posterior side. In traditional Chinese medicine it is believed that once these two channels are connected all other channels will be linked up, allowing free circulation of genuine QI and thereby doing good to the body.

Placing the tongue on the top of the palate should be done naturally and without any forced effort this helps with the stimulation of saliva and the secretion of saliva.

QI GONG therapists highly treasure saliva, which is believed to contain not only natural liquid but also enzymes, immunoglobulin A and other substances that help digestion, detoxification and immunization.

When saliva is secreted in qi gong training it should be swallowed slowly in order to achieve better results.
